Introduction: Chiasmal damage typically causes bitemporal hemianopic visual field disturbance. Though there are two undisturbed nasal visual half fields they do not make one normal field of one eye. Lack of stabilisation by corresponding areas of the retina causes sliding of the hemifields of each eye. Diplopia, a scotoma, absence of stereoacuity and reading difficulties result. Methods and results: How every day life of the patient is compromised and what can be done to help them is explained by cases of teenage patients with various degrees of sliding hemifields. Conclusion: Individually customized rehabilitation based on the understanding of the symptoms is essential for these patients
