Invitation
Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to be able to inform you that in accordance with the decision taken at the membership meeting during the 27th meeting of EPOG in Regensburg last fall, the group has now moved to an official society-the European Paediatric Ophthalmological Society, EPOS.
In order to document our long tradition the present board has decided to count upcoming meetings from the first EPOG meeting on. Therefore, our next meeting will be the 28th meeting of the EPOS (formerly EPOG). Thanks to an invitation from our Portuguese colleagues, it will be held in Figueira da Foz, Portugal on October 4 – 6, 2002, hosted by Prof. Joaquim Murta and Dr. Eduardo Silva, University of Coimbra, Portugal.
The main topic will be Dysmorphology of the eye and orbit. There will be, however, still time for free papers on other aspects of paediatric ophthalmology and genetics. According to the tradition of EPOG, submissions usually will be accepted. The deadline for submitting abstracts is July 15th (for details of abstract submission and registration see below). Depending on the volume of submissions it may become necessary – as in previous years – to limit the time for case presentations to 5 minutes, the time for paper presentations will be 10 minutes. We will inform you, at the latest, one month before the meeting of the acceptance of your abstract.
Also, the first elections of the EPOS will take place at the membership meeting that, as usual, will be on Saturday. All members who wish to stand for election should write to me indicating their wish to stand for office. They should indicate which position they wish to stand for (President, Secretary, Treasurer or Board Member) They should include a brief synopsis of their name, address, current position and clinical and research interests. This need only to be a brief paragraph which can be circulated to members at the meeting. The proposal letter should reach me at least 3 weeks before the meeting.
In order to profit from modern information technology, last year we had started to set up a website. As our name has changed, the website has changed accordingly and is now www.epos-focus.org. In addition to some general information concerning EPOS, including the new statutes, there you will find all details concerning the upcoming meeting, venue, registration, submission of abstracts, hotel reservation, travel indications etc. Please note that only online submission of abstracts will be possible. We think by now most of us have had the opportunity to access the website and ask anyone who has not yet entered his/her email-address in the mailing list to do so at their earliest convenience as this not only facilitates communication but also reduces cost.
Here are the most important informations:
The fee for the 28th meeting will be 200 Euros, and includes tea/coffee breaks, Friday night cocktail reception, Saturday lunch and dinner at the local Casino and local transportation during the meeting.
The fee for accompanying persons will be 100 Euros. Special program will be provided.
Accommodation will be in local hotels. These should be booked separately by the participants (single rooms starting at about 45 Euros, double rooms starting at about 55 Euros, breakfast included).
The nearest airport to Figueira da Foz is Porto (approximately 120 km north of the city). However, we believe it would be best to fly to Lisbon (approximately 190 km south of Figueira da Foz). Shuttle service from and to the airport is being arranged. We also have obtained an excellent deal with a local car rental, for the duration of the meeting.
I hope you will encourage colleagues, particularly younger ones, to join the group. If you wish me to invite any colleagues perhaps you would forward their name and address. Finally, I would like to update the database to include fax numbers and email addresses, and would be grateful if you could include this with your reply.
I look forward to meeting you in Figueira de Foz.
Sincerely yours,
Prof. Dr. med. Birgit Lorenz
President
